Traditions in Guatemala

Guatemala as a multiethnic country is a syncretism between ancient Mayan practices and the ancestral Christian beliefs; as a sign of this is the celebration of San Simón in San Andres Itzapa in Chimaltenango, San Andres Xecul in Totonicapán, Maximón in Santiago Atitlán and Zunil in Quetzaltenango.

Traditions in Guatemala have been the same through history; they have changed a little depending on different circumstances.  Traditions are based in sociocultural events, formerly known as folklore.  Religious traditions are part of the spiritual culture and its manifestations are carried out through activities at specific times or for the holding of a predominately religious event.

TravelsGuatemala TraditionsAs we can see Catholic feasts are the most important feasts in honor of the patron saints and catholic are conducted with the participation of the whole community. Among the religious holidays with further moves will include the celebration of the Holly Week in Guatemala City and Antigua Guatemala, The Corpus Christi in Patzún, the celebration of the Virgin id the Assumption in Guatemala City and Mayan Ceremonies.
